Origin/roots of Brownies: Girls demanded an organization for them after Baden-Powell had started scouting for boys.

Local origins/ date of foundation:
Three have been brownies for three separate periods since about 1925. Current pack has been open 14 years.

Activities it undertakes:
craft, games, visits by relevant organisations, annual weekend away, badges

Guiding exists in many countries

Origin/roots of Rainbows: The Rainbow section of the Guiding movement began in 1987 for girls who have reached their 5th birthday and leave after their 7th birthday, the nearest holiday when a place becomes available for them to join the Brownie section.

Local origins/ date of foundation: The 11th Swinton St Charles Rainbows formed in1992 meeting in the former Parish Hall each Thursday from 6pm until 7pm. We now meet in the School Hall, same day and time.

Activities it undertakes: A varied programme suited to all ages and abilities. Various badges can be earned based on Rainbows roundabout materials provided by Girlguiding UK. We share activities with other Rainbows, Brownie and Guides units in our local area providing a god experience of meeting with other girls from different groups.

Membership locally/nationally/worldwide: We belong to the Swinton North District, Greater Manchester west Division and nationally – Girlguiding UK.

Thursday 15 August.   The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Holy Day of Obligation.. Mass 10.00am (Saint Marks). (No Mass in Saint Charles today)

 Friday 16 August.    Mass 10.00am Saint Mark's.     

 Saturday  17 August. No Mass in cemetery during August.   11.30am - 12.noon Sacrament of Reconciliation (Saint Charles)
