Church Cleaners

One of the things people notice on entering St Charles Church is that it is always clean and tidy. That’s despite the quite heavy yse that is made of the church at weekend Masses, weekday Masses and all the other incidental uses that the church building is put to, such as prayer days, talks, weddings, funerals, ecumenical services and all sorts of other celebrations. The building quickly gets dirty and untidy.

The response to that is a team of dedicated volunteers who clean the church building every week. We try to split the volunteers into teams of four and we have a rota so that each team cleans every fourth week. What day of the week this is done is decided by each individual team, and we tend to take 30-40 minutes each week: not a long time, but plenty to give the church a quick vacuuming and dusting. At Christmas and Easter, we have ” The Big Clean” when all the teams come together to give the building a more thorough cleaning.

As you might imagine, the team of church cleaners would be so grateful if more volunteers would come forward; it is a way of getting to know more members of our community as well as providing a very useful service. It can also be really good fun!
