The Rambling Club
The rambling club evolved out of the church choir back in around 1974! We used to take our families out for a ramble after mass in the countryside. We decided to open the invitation out to anyone and everyone who wished to join us, every 3rd Sunday of the month. Our members grew and at one time we had 79 walkers and needed two coaches!
The group were also a large working group which arranged working parties to renovate the works canteen that Fr. Kavanagh had purchased, and helped to turn it into our parish hall. Many of the rambling club were local tradesmen and helped out on a voluntary basis.
The rambling club arranged pilgrimages to Bala, Walsingham and Rome, all on foot. We also arranged a walking youth hosteling holiday in the Yorkshire dales. Our group, although based at St. Charles, included all other denominations. The current chairperson is also a prominent member of St.Peter’s Parish, Swinton.
I would recommend the rambling club to anyone, especially families who wish to enjoy the countryside and meet other families in the parish.
