St Charles RC Primary

St Charles RC Primary school opened in 1885 in order to educate the children from St Charles Borromeo RC Parish and for the past 132 years we have been educating Catholic children.  On the first day of opening 18 children were registered, now we have 249 children on role.

This year we have been very proud to open our forest school.  The governors, staff and children at St Charles worked with playground designer Sean Creagh who also designs the play spaces at Chester Zoo! We also worked with Ground Force, the RHS and Communities Committee to raise funds and make our children’s ideas a reality.  We have been really lucky to be able to complete the project with support and fundraising from our Friends of St Charles, TESCO, Awards for All, Galliford Try, the Booth Foundation and the Arts Council.  The children enjoy learning outdoors, learning about God’s creation and spending time in creative play outside.  We hope to use our outdoor space and Community Garden for more events for our parish in 2018.

In 2018 our Headteacher Clare Campbell will be going on Mission to Kenya for 10 days, with the Salesian Sisters and 2 Catholic Headteachers from Salford Diocese.  She will be speaking at Nairobi University about Art Therapy and will be teaching in schools in Dagoretti.  Fr Gavin introduced us to the charity Mary’s Meals which is a Catholic foundation who feed over a million children living in poverty across the world.  We have sponsored Kimalel school in Kenya, with the intention of feeding the whole school for a year.  School dinners in Kenya only cost 7p per day!  So far we have raised £149.00 by offering funds in place of Christmas presents  and raising money from ticket sales for our Christmas plays.  If you would like to donate to this special cause please visit:
