Origin/roots of organization:
Alice Ingham, later Mother Mary Francis, gathered a small group of women around her in Rochdale to live a simple Third Order Franciscan rule, share all they had in common and serve the poor. In 1883, the Congregation was officially founded in Mill Hill, having moved there under the direction of Cardinal Herbert Vaughan to work in the newly founded seminary of the Mill Hill Fathers.

Local origins/ date of foundation:
The sisters have been in the Salford Diocese since their beginning, with many of them working in the Salford Rescue Society, Patricoft Convent and Children’s home as well as other activities. The sisters moved to Greenleach Lane in 1960.

Activities it undertakes:
St. Joseph’s Convent is the Generalate, the official business centre of the Congregation, a registered Charity. Community members work in various apostolates in the Salford Diocese. The convent provides accommodation for monthly meetings of the C.W.L. and occasional other meetings as well as a meeting place for the FMSJ Associate Programme.

Membership locally/nationally/worldwide:
There are convents in Salford, Canterbury, Liverpool and Leyland as well as Ireland, Ecuador, Holland and Kenya.

 Sunday 22 March.  Fifth Sunday of Lent.   All Masses are now suspended until further notice in compliance with current directives - as is Sunday Mass obligation because of extraordinary circumstances.

Wednesday 2 April.  All Masses are currently suspend because of current directives No  RCIA this evening.

Thursday 3 April. All Masses are currently suspend because of current directives. 

 Friday 4 April. All Masses are currently suspend because of current directives.  

 Saturday 5 April .  No Mass Saint Mary's chapel, Wardley.  (see notes above)    No Sacrament of Reconciliation Saint Charles.
