Young Readers Ministry

The Young Readers’ Ministry was formed in 2011 and over the years we have grown enthusiastically. Often our Young Readers get the taste for reading when they are on the Sacramental Programme and/or through the Uniformed Organisations.

We currently have 6 young people who read at the 6pm Mass on a Saturday and 13 who read at the 11am Mass on Sunday.

At the 11am Mass they have taken on the mantle of reading the Psalms, and when confident will read the 1st or 2nd Readings and Bidding Prayers. The Young Readers also read the Solemn Intercessions at the Good Friday Service .

There is no pre-requisite to becoming a Young Reader other than a strong desire to read the Word of God. We encourage young people from year 6 to join this ministry. We offer a buddy system to our new Young Readers to help their confidence and they receive lots of support and guidance.

We have formation days for our Young Readers and hope to have another one in the early part of 2018.
